Layering 101: 7 Ways To Layer Towards The End of Summer

Sep 8, 2015

While we're torn between wanting to keep those citrusy clementine hues and watermelon shades close to our chest and wanting to pull the knits over our heads, it's a tough transition from summer to fall. A part of us will miss the feel of digging our toes in the sand while the hailing the icecream cart like a taxi from our spot on the beach towel. But another part can barely wait to get her upper lip frothy with pumpkin spice latte foam.

While it's a back and forth pull, some of us don't really have a choice in the matter: If you live on the west coast, you'll get to stay in your flirty two piece summer dresses, and if you're in the east coast you're starting to relearn just how to put your arms through jacket sleeves. And if you're in the Midwest like me, well, good luck to ya. You don't stand a chance, weather will be broken for the next two months.

The point being is that we'll all be going through a little bit of everything this next month- Wednesdays will be sunny and will make you think you have one more chance to grab that chardonnay and go on a picnic, and Thursdays will be nippy and will make you think of stocking up on hot cocoa. During a time like this, you need a game plan on how to layer up for both hot and cold weather. Below are seven ways to do just that:

This made me chuckle because it's so true. Kentucky is kinda in the Midwest and we're needing jackets in the morning and swimming pools by noon. As far as fashion goes, I've been living in looks 1 and 4. It just makes things easier when your weather suffers from an extreme mood swing disorder.

  3. We are going through the opposite here, transitioning into summer. Though your points are still relevant, I wish winter would stick around longer hahaha.

  5. I've seen two dresses layered on top of each other... this one is totally out of the box, but I'm really intrigued to see if I can try this with items in my own closet! Thanks for all the great inspiration for fall!

  6. Great transition outfits! I would love to try the sheer dress under the sweater dress, I'll just have to play around with what I have. I never thought I would see the day where denim + denim is so dang CHIC! And there are so many ways to do it!
