Sheer can be a tricky number to pull off, and if you're not brave at heart with your closet you might be tempted to ignore it all together. Not everyone is bold enough to stride out with her best lacy bra a-blazin' in the middle of the afternoon, but that doesn't mean you can't dabble in the trend. I, for example, can't imagine facing the barista while my black bra is all, "Hey, how's it going." Not for me. But lucky for us there are ways to style the sheer trend that doesn't revolve broadcasting your best delicates. Interested? Keep reading.

The answer lies in some clever layering. Sheer skirts don't need to go over bare legs; they could just as easily be popped over maxi dresses or flirty shift minis. Take this look for example: I was in the mood for a simple but slightly country look by pairing lace and denim together, and so I popped this sheer skirt on top of a denim maxi dress. As long as you keep the top neutral and fairly simple, the same could be done with any dress. The same goes with sheer tops: Keep an eye on your proportions, but they look extra fun layered on top of dresses or shell tops. How about you, do you have any sheer layering tips?

  2. Thank you for the tips! This outfit is adorable! The best I could ever come up with for sheer clothing was to use it as bathing suit cover-up.

  3. Oh, this is such a cute look! I usually (read: always) avoid sheer clothing, as my style is pretty modest, but this is so very creative. I don't think I'm quite tall enough to get away with a maxi dress, but I'm tempted to try it now. I mean, why not?
Hope you're having a fabulous day. xoxo!!!

I've been eying a sheer skirt at this boutique but I thought I could probably only wear it to the beach over a swimsuit but this post has given me a million ideas! The possibilities are endless! Thanks for this! I really adore the way you wore it over a denim dress - it looks so chic!

  7. Beautiful! This skirt is perfection and I do like the country pairing of denim. Although I love a good bra under lace & tulle look… I'm just not sure the barista's ready for it! :-P

  16. Hahaha, sheer can totally get daring sometimes. I have a friend who can work a sheer skirt and black underwear. See, if I did that I'd just look awful. But she looked classy as freaking heck. I suppose it depends how comfortable you are with it and the way you work it, haha. And you work this sheer so well! I love the white swiss dots. They're super elegant.

  17. I would have never thought to put a shair lace maxi over a denim dress---the end result is unique & very cool! I usually will layer a nude slip under sheer pieces (BORING!), but this will hopefully encourage me to think outside the box!
