Layering 101: 7 Tips on How to Layer for a Chilly Spring

Apr 25, 2015

While some of you are already sipping cocktails on patio decks in floppy hats (h8 you), the rest of us are trying to get away with short sleeves and bare knees on those rare days that the sun is feeling generous. So as you can imagine, it can be kind of frustrating feeling like it's June coming in through the windows, but being hit by a gust with teeth the second we step out onto the front steps. It takes a little bit of finesse to join into the spring fashion excitement, but not walk with goosebumps the whole day through. But with some clever layering, it could be done! Below are 7 tips on how to layer your spring items so you don't catch a cold come Friday. Which is your favorite?:

  1. Hahhaa, I am the person who is trying to wear shorts at the moment! It's quite embarrassing really, being in a lecture in shorts and then it starts hammering it down with rain ;) however your tips are really useful! I really love the orange in the coat in picture one actually, it's so stylish! I think you're spot on with layering though.. it's definitely the way forward at the moment! xxx

  4. I love these layering inspirations and especially FIVE. It's been my inspiration since winter when I stumbled across on Pinterest. My latest post was copycat look of it. Since I had pink jumper and yellow lace skirt in my wardrobe already, but I never thought before about pairing both of them.

  6. This post is so great! I live in Portland and the weather has been so off and on lately, it's been hard to commit to an outfit. So this is really so inspiring! Love it!

  7. Ha...what a coincidence. I'll talk about layering too in my next post :) Layering is what keeps me going during those transeasonal motnhs. I'm particularly loving Pernille's look. That coat is to die for!

  8. I absolutely love the layering tips you shared here. Just like you, I'm still stuck with gloomy days and a chilly wind. I always bring a scarf with me wherever I go! And I try to bright up my darker colored outfits with a bold statement bag!

  10. You know, even as I'm sitting here in shorts I am so aware of how important layering is. It's everything! How you make basic pieces look like they are more.

    Great post! xx

  13. Layering is my life! Like you said, I like to mix winter pieces with spring pieces this time of year to kind of ease into warmer weather. Also because I can't wait to wear fun springy clothes after what felt like the longest winter of all time!

  15. Haha that first line though = everyone in California right now. Oops... I am loving all these layering ideas, though. The overalls with a sweater (and a floppy hat!) seem so summer like, even if you are bundled up a bit.

  23. Love the idea of wearing layering a maxi dress with pants to stay a little warmer! I think it looks ever more chic & modern that way!

In terms of weather, we have just the opposite going on here....it's technically Fall, but it still feels like summer. Hasn't seemed to cool down one bit, and it's almost May (think of May as your November)! xx
