WEARING SUSPENDERS LIKE ANNIE HALL

Now that my style has taken a more simple turn, I sometimes struggle with creating an outfit and worrying it might look...boring. I was so used to piling on the layers and the patterns that sometimes a simple pair of bell bottoms and a polka dot knit just seems lazy. Which is exactly why I found myself in front of the bathroom mirror for a good ten minutes, twisting this way and that, trying to decide if I actually liked this look or not. "The colors are really pretty together", I tried to convince myself. "The gold clutch gives it a fun pop", I offered. But I knew something was...missing.

And then, inspiration hit. If I was going to do wide bell bottoms, I might as well go all Annie Hall on the look. So I tip-toed into my brother's room, carefully checked if the coast was clear, and stole his suspenders! After snapping them on all I could think was "Better, muuuuch better. Let's go."

Have you ever worn suspenders before? I'd love to hear more ideas on how to wear them! I still remember when blogger Gentri Lee wore them with a skirt a few months back- and I'm still swooning.

  2. This is far from boring! The suspenders give it the perfect final touch. I know exactly what you mean- whenever I'm dressed in more subtle clothes I feel like it's missing something or looks generic. I love suspenders! I wore a pair on Flock Together with shorts and tights. Which reminds me- I wish were in FT at the same time because I would've loved raiding your closet :)

  5. I cannot tell you how amazing you look in this outfit and how much I love it! The suspenders were the PERFECT touch! I think that, especially as a style blogger, it can be really hard to go simple for some reason but sometimes it turns into THE BEST outfits.

  6. Great fall look! You are so lucky you are tall and can pull styles like this off. I just look frumpy in wide leg pants. Hope life's treating you well, miss!

  9. You're right, it is a pretty color combination and the gold clutch really does add a little something special to the look but the suspenders make it perfect. I never would have thought to add them, this is such a clever idea and so cute!

  12. Tons of fun! Brilliant! I need a top like yours. :)

No, I never wore them myself, but my daughter has a pair. She just let them hang loosely over her shorts in the Summer. :) I believe she also tried them with a skirt, but she is not a huge fan of skirts at this point. xxx

  13. Oh! Amazing outfit! It fits you so beautifully! :) the suspenders are definitely giving the look that punch. I've been wearing suspenders for the first time this summer; I will take your outfit as inspiration for them to follow me into fall.

  19. When I first got into fashion some years ago I wanted to stand out as much as possible. Pattern clashing, over accessorizing and lots of colour ensued. Now that I'm older and tend to wear simpler outfits I have fallen into the same dilemma as you! I like simple outfits, but am always afraid they'll look boring. Seeing you rock those suspenders, however, has made me think that I need to expand my accessory collection just so I can add that extra bit of 'ooh'.

Also, thank you for your last comment on my blog. You dear are a babe and never fail to make me smile!

  34. Oh...oh! You are looking like Keaton. I've just been falling more and more in love with your looks lately and this one is another gem. I've worn an outfit with suspenders before (a look several years ago with a tie too), and I liked it, but I think I like yours more. It is a bit more low-key and has more flirty femininity to it. Absolutely adore this!

  35. Adding the suspenders to the pants was an awesome idea! It would have been cute without them, but the suspenders takes the outfit to a whole new level!

  36. This is such a great outfit and faaar from boring! I've never worn suspenders and I'm not sure I could pull them off, but I totally love the idea and the way you styled them!
