LAYERING 101: 10 TIPS ON HOW TO LAYER FOR FALL

Sep 22, 2014

Remember last week when I was freaking out that I didn't know how to dress for fall anymore? All of a sudden thicker layers became elusive to me, and I couldn't think of any combos other than the obvious "throw a cardi on it" ones. Well, you can only imagine my panic. I thought I had six months of boring outfits ahead of me! So in an attempt to gather some inspiration, I created this installment to the Layering 101 series- how to layer our looks for fall in more creative/ interesting ways. Now excuse me while I go try to recreate these in my closet and gather some peace of mind. Which one is your favorite?

  2. These are great ideas! Dressing for fall is something I've been thinking about lately too. Tights with shorts are one of my favorite combinations, especially with my corduroy shorts. It's nice for when it's not too cold out. Also, maxi skirts are great because you can wear thick leggings underneath for warmth and no one will know!

  4. These are such wonderful ideas! I definitely fell into a style rut last fall and just ended up wearing jeans and a sweater with boots every day because I couldn't come up with any other ideas. I am hoping to avoid that this year. I really like idea number six!

  5. They all are so lovely! Thank goodness I don't have to choose one favorite, it would be impossibly unfair. :) I have to say that I came up with a couple of those myself, yay! And will be happy to experiment with a few others. Can't wait to see what you'll be doing this Fall. Layering is my favorite thing to see, and I am learning to be more creative myself.

You are such a breath of fresh air! Still would love to read that post about who and what influenced your unique approach to style. And to life, for that matter. :)

    Lots of love xxx

Ain't no reason why you can't rock the brights at this time of year! Isn't that why they invented bright corduroy pants? I love wearing my blinding bright pants in the colder months too.

Love your shoes as well. Super sleek!

  19. This is really helpful! All of these looks are lovely. Although there's some serious use of polo neck sweaters in there. I always find those things kind of choking, but I love the denim shirts everywhere.

  20. hahahah awwe, you poor dear! I love that you just challenged yourself a little and got in the layering zone and wrote this out. Writing and making seems to get you out of any funks you may be in. I really like the idea of layering jackets with maxi dresses, because I have aquired a fewwwwww more maxi dresses and would like to keep wearing them through the fall.

  21. These are ALL such awesome examples of layering. Love fall for that and can't wait to start layering more and more!! <3 And I hear ya, when the weather changes suddenly, as it did the other day... I feel so frazzled and stressed standing in front of my closet. Haha!! As for my fave looks? Three and six, in fact, I'm pretty sure I need to recreate them, ASAP!! xo

  23. I feel like I have to re-learn how to layer every year when the weather cools down too! Four months of triple digits can do that to you :) Good inspiration- I especially love 5 & 6!

  27. Autumn is probably the best month for layering, I think! I am a big fan of the chunky, slouchy cardigan, and I am always on the lookout for scarves!

  29. Urgh why did I come to this post. It's heating up over here and you've reminded me (not that I required it to begin with lol) how awesome the winter months are. At least on this side of the world. BF jeans and blazers are my favorite pairing of late but also been crushing on shirts playing peek-a-boo with sweaters. Sigh.
