Giving Blazers a Go

This is going to sound odd, but I was never much of a blazer person because I never really know how to style them. To me they just look so...boring. Like, oh, you pop it over a dress or over a pair of jeans and call it a day. Calling it a day is not my thing.

But when I decided to wear this gingham dress this morning, I was sort of stumped with what to pair it with. It was too warm for a sweater, and I've already worn it with a cargo vest too many times to count. And then, from the corner of my eye, I saw a crushed velvet sleeve poke out from the back of my closet. I studied it carefully before even considering the thought that was trying to take shape in my head: what about a, dare I say it, blazer? Frowning, I decided it wouldn't hurt to try and nipped it out.

And I think it looks adorable together! I think it definitely helps that the blazer is a fun color and its velvet texture brings something interesting to the table, but this was just the thing for this tricky-to-style dress. And to finish it off, I paired the ensemble with white jelly shoes to make it feel more young, and there we have it! A perfect Tuesday outfit.

  3. I'm a big blazer fan (they're my solution for pretty much every workplace fashion problem I've ever encountered) and I love how you styled yours. I also just love the blazer itself - that colour is wonderful!

  6. There is something delightfully Anne-of-Green-Gables-esque about this look! (I have a lifelong love of that character, so you must take this as a high compliment!) I love that blazer of yours (I don't own any - may have to start hunting for one) and the collars are great together.

  7. I love blazers because I'm very much a 'throw something on and call it a day' kind of girl, they're so easy and wonderful! <3

  8. I fell in love with subtle details of your dress! And this blazer is a true writer's blazer - comfy, soft, and a bit funky! I love blazers, similar to yours. I have so many blazers which I loved the idea of, but in reality I don't actually wear them... hmmm... Wonderful outfit, so youuuuu! :) xxxxxx

  12. It does look like a cute and- how to put it- clean-lined combo. The textures add an extra layer of fun to it all! Plus the sheer panelling is fun too.

Also this line, "Calling it a day is not my thing." is the best because it is fun but true that you're are all about the added layers. Your writing style always puts a smile on my face.

  16. I totally feel you about blazers - it took me a long time to warm up to them. Or me, I rely on them to add some polish to casual outfits. Blazer + scarf = instant classiness in my universe, an makes even a T shirt and jeans look a little more special.

  17. Looks amazing, I'm not much of a blazer person because most blazers seem to drown me. This one looks great with that dress and compliments your figure so well!!

  20. Haha oh man, as someone who works in politics, a blazer is an absolute essential! I know what you mean about now wanting to wear a piece that you throw on and "call it a day." Most of my casual Fridays have involved a casual blazer with a pair of jeans because I was too lazy to come up with anything else. That said, I think you've proved that a nice blazer, when styled correctly, can look incredibly chic and give a dress that extra oomph. Love the cozy and eclectic feel of this outfit!

  21. I think the colors mesh perfectly. I wouldn't have thought you struggled to style it at all; the look appears so well put together! The velvet texture is divine, but that gingham dress absolute picnic perfection.

  23. It's funny to hear you saying this. I figure we are so similar in our fashion sense, but I've been blazer-crazy for a long time! I love a good blazer and a dress.

  24. That blazer looks stunning on you - I'm always so envious of brunettes and how good they look in orange! And that gingham dress is adorable, I love the details.

  25. way to branch out! there are some many things i thought weren't my style until i gave them a try. color being one of them. i used to be the girl who wore all neutrals, because they all matched and were easy. then i was introduced to the wide world of color, and i haven't looked back since :)
