Thrifting 101: Find Skirts!

Apr 19, 2014

Whenever I go thrifting I usually do the customary run-through through the blouse and sweater rack, but I always look forward to the skirt section. There's always something to find! So much to the point where I rarely buy skirts in actual mall's or department stores, because I can find their near-twins for a fraction of the price. Below I'm sharing some of my favorite ones, in the hopes that it'll help you spot the same ones in your thrift joints! And for those of you that aren't sold yet, I styled the pieces (each of them barely costing over $3, by the way!) so you can see just how modern and pretty they are :)

(PS- if you have a thrifting topic you'd like me to go over, leave your idea in the comments! I'd love to know what you'd specifically want to read about.)

  1. Love it! Skirts really are the jackpot section of thrift stores!

  2. You have so many good skirt finds, its a section I never hit often enough. If its not apparent enough from my shop... I usually spend at least 90% of all my thrift time in the dress section haha. Loving these thrifting tips posts!

  4. One of my favorite skirts is an altered thrift find. I have to admit that I haven't been spending much time in the skirt section lately. I always make a beeline for the dresses!

  6. I always get super excited when I can thrift a really good floral print skirt from the thrift store! That and solid colored ones. Those are usually the most versatile :)

  8. These are all such cute skirts and outfit ideas--I really love the one with the bold, red skirt. I always have been relatively unlucky with thrift store skirts, I'm afraid (I always tend to find very shapeless skirts that are far too big for me anyway). But this post really inspires me to keep looking!

    Cheers,

  12. Wow, you really do have some great finds!! I can see myself wearing almost all of those, but haven't had such luck thrifting before. Then again, I've only been a handful of times, and I know it can be hit or miss.

  13. Ahh this is such a great post! I admit, I am definitely afraid of the skirt section--I always think it looks pretty on the rack but I'd never be able to pull it off! Thanks for this post--it was really motivating and rather inspiring! :D I'll let you know if I find anything! xx

  14. Okay I'm a little bit embarrassed because I just finished writing a blog about my ridiculous splurge. I really need to learn how to be a better thrifter like you. I think my problem is just that I feel so overwhelmed by all options at the thrift store (and sifting the gems from the junk). I probably should print out your blogs so I'll have a checklist of what to look for LOL

  15. I love how you categorized them and gave us styling inspiration. I've only bought a skirt once from a thrift store and it was a brand new J. Crew pencil skirt which I got for $3. It was such a ridiculously great deal. I need to start thrifting this summer now that I've noticed more summery clothes available.

  16. SUCH great finds - I love that red skirt. i always make a beeline for the jackets when thrifting. Vintage jackets always seem to fit so much better than modern chain store versions these days.

  18. I always go for dresses first, I don't know why. I rarely look at the skirts, but lately I've been finding some really cool ones so maybe I'll start looking more often. I'd be interested in knowing what everyone starts with.

As for suggestions...I'd love a thrifting video! I always love seeing my favorite bloggers in thrift mode, haha.

  19. This is so fantastic! I need to print this out and hang it in my bedroom or something for those days when I'm not sure what to wear. There are so many amazing options! I think the outfit with the green skirt is my favorite :) Also, I really REALLY want a leather jacket like that someday. I scour thrift stores endlessly but have yet to find one that is the right style and actually fits me, ahhh someday :)

  20. I have never had luck with skirts. I don't go thrifting much these days, but back when I did I was only able to find 2 that I ever liked. Just two. Hopefully when my thrifting game picks up this summer I'll be able to have as much luck as you have!

  21. I too have found some great skirts while thrifting, but not as often as you seem to! I think my main issue is finding ones that sit at the natural waist, and are also not cheaply made (ehem, no drawstrings or elastic waistbands). The skirts I end up buying at thrift shops are usually vintage for those reasons, I think I've only bought one that isn't. Thanks for sharing your thrifty thoughts! :)
