Layering 101

Apr 11, 2014

In the last Layering 101 post I went over how I organize my closet according to layering potential rather then, let's say, colors or seasons. And one tip that I shared was that I hang my shirts according to collar types because that collar is an important piece when you want to create a layered look! I find it important to hang them in that particular order because then you see all your layering options in one spot and can get more creative while styling.  I've had a lot of happy accidents where I didn't even think of pairing a certain shirt underneath a dress but it was in my pile of 'potentials' and it matched perfectly. To further demonstrate how versatile a collar can be and how it's helpful to keep them all in one spot, I whipped together an infographic that takes one sleeveless dress and shows how it transforms in both look and mood with just a different collar type. I hope you like it :)

  6. I have a dress just like the one shown here, but in orange. I usually layer stuff on top of the dress, but not so much underneath. I gotta try this out since I already have most of the "ingredients".

Thanks for the comment on my blog, you made my heart sing! The scroll bar under my picture is from rewardstyle. Register first on the blog and then search for clothes, add them as favourites and then go to shop the look app and you will select and create the same bar as I did. Hope that helps :) x

  24. I love that you organize your wardrobe by layering capability. Priorities! I divide mine by colour, season, and work appropriateness. It sounds OTT, but in the morning I know exactly what to go for! I especially love your last look, those textures and 70s curtain vibes make my heart go pitter patter.

  25. You are a real fashion blogger, because you have your own, special vision of how to wear different things, which seem to be ordinary at the first sight. You really inspire me to wear something more original and unusual.

  27. Marlen,
Great ideas! While I am more to layer shirts and dresses by putting jackets or cardis over, I love the idea of layering under also! And you definitely seem to be an expert:)

  29. i LOVED this post Marlen! that first look, just the dress alone, is just the kind of look i see and think hmm, that's a pretty dress, but the whole look is a bit of a snor-er BUT w/ the diff layers that completely changes. i love how you took the time to show how diff each one looks w/ a diff kind of top under, super cool & something i prob wouldnt have noticed. i love how you showed your diff looks too where you used this!
