Fight for Flight

So, some exciting stuff.....I finished the first draft of my book! And right now I'm well into revising my second draft so I'm hoping to be done with the whole thing in about a month/ month and a half. Just writing that gave me a little zing.  But even though I'm half way through the tunnel I have a feeling the hard part is going to be what happens after I put the last period on the last sentence. I keep swinging between imagining myself on Good Morning America talking about my book or imagining myself drinking a whole box of wine in the dark because I couldn't find a literary agent. But whatever happens (I mean, hopefully not the latter) I'll still be happy because I'm finally, finally doing what I wanted.

And I decided that even if this first book won't be a success I won't be deterred. I'm going to write another book, some short stories, and maybe even freelance here and there- and I'll be content even if I'll be Van Gogh poor for a while. Just hopefully the pressure won't get to me like it did to him and force me to send my ear off in the post. To who ever gets it, my apologies in advance. And for those of you who are doing the same, or haven't quite convinced themselves to take the chance and leap yet:

"To the ones who still believe in dreams:

Chase them. Chase them till you're out of breath.
Then, keep running."

Now, onto the topic of my ah-mazing dress.  I love 90's dresses where the top is denim and the skirt is some sort of fabric, so when I saw this adorable midi number at Fight for Flight I pounced on it immediately. And bonus: sunflowers are my favorite flowers. This clearly has got "Marlen" written all over it. I couldn't bear to layer this summery number up, so instead I just added some cut-out shoes and a slouchy backpack to give it more of a modern feel. I can't wait till the weather stays warm in Chicago so I can give this piece some wear ;)

And Fight for Flight is run by one sweet Georgian gal, Becca. She's a mega-thrifta-holic, wants to chase storms, goes to sci-fi meetups, and loves everything and anything vintage. Her store is stocked with plaid summer dresses, daisy print minis, and quirky sweaters, and right now she's also offering 20% off with coupon code BIRTHDAY 20! Also, Becca is starting up a second shop She & Her Vintage with her friend Lindsay (who happens to be a self-proclaimed cat lady, wants to live in the '50's, and her favorite past-time happens to be wine), and they have a blog all about vintage along with it. Talk about going head first after your dreams, ey? Be sure to support them and say hello!

And here are some of my favorite picks to give you an idea what they have in store- that daisy mini has "summer festival" written alllll over it:

PS: Yay, it seemed like you all really liked the beginning to my Layering 101 series so I'll definitely be continuing it! I'm so glad I asked your opinion on how to breath new life into this blog; I'm all excited about it again.

  2. Yaaaay, congrats on finishing the bookie! I think this is the hardest part, to pull through and to create something of your own. Even if it doesn't bring you an appearance to "Good Morning America" it's still a huge achievement!
And my my, this dress O_O It's definitely a winner!

  5. Wow, congratulations! You could always self-publish on Amazon or whatever, and in fact I've heard that you can make more money that way if you would otherwise be a middle-of-the-road author with a big publisher. Anyway, I hope whoever gets the ear will appreciate it :)

  8. Good for you keeping a positive attitude. I would be terrified to write a book (though I thought I was going to be a writer in my youth and wrote so many books/stories/poems/short stories it was nauseating) so I find you very brave. I'm sure you will do great!

  23. In response to your question, I do use a self timer (I'm not sure if I can use a remote with my camera as it's just a digital one?) which means lots of tottering back and forth in heels, but I can cope with it!
I love this outfit, the dress is so unique and interesting. Love the lip colour on you as well! That is so exciting about your draft, I'd love to be able to write a book... One day! xx

Funny story - my fiance also finished his first draft just yesterday! His deadline for himself was April 1st, so he stayed up most of the night finishing it.
