I am officially an ADVENTURER. This Labor Day weekend I put my legs through boyfriend jeans, laced up the dustiest pair of boots I could find, and went to go conquer a volcano like the CHAMP THAT I AM. I don't know why I keep running away to Asia to go exploring (for new readers, I went to India and Nepal six months ago) when the Northwest has all these forests tucked away like secrets, and they're practically in my backyard now! I see Mount Rainier from my kitchen window every time I do dishes, so it was wild getting to actually climb it and see how the terrain changes from mammoth trees on the bottom, to meadows teaming with wildflowers and pines and firs in the middle, to slabs of snow and  rippling rivers on the top. Oh how I wish I could build a house of sticks on that very top and spend all my days there.

Now I've got the bug in me and all I want to do is go there every weekend. That way I'll get to pretend I'm Pocahontas running through the woods at least once a week (just you know, sans the hair).

  6. Oh SO beautiful! I'd love to hike there one day.
A couple of years ago when I was living in Ecuador I climbed Cotopaxi. It was SO cold (a snow covered Volcano..Whaaaa??) and ruthless and it felt AMAZING afterward looking down at that huge sucker.

  33. So gorgeous! I can't believe you see it out your window every day! I hiked Mt Rainier with my family when I was little while we were in the area for a day. We were going on a cruise to Alaska that left from a nearby port I think? But anyway, I remember hiking in the middle of the summer and finding a huge icy snow patch with my brother and being SO excited to slide around on it in the hot heat! I really should hike more...
