But.. Where's the Fatted Calf?

Welp, I am now in Chicago and I can't quite say it's going exactly as I expected it to be. I thought there'd be a "Welcome Home Our Darling Baby" hand-painted sign in the living room with confetti poppers going off as I opened the front door. Maybe my  mom would be weeping tears of happiness in the corner with a homemade cupcake extended in her outstretched hand. You know, just normal expectations.

But I got none of that. The very least I thought there'd be a home made dinner...and instead I nuked myself some chicken nuggets in the toaster oven. You guys, there weren't even cookies in the cupboard. I mean, why did I even come?

But in all fairness my brother did just make me a strawberry smoothie. Maybe things will start turning around? Or maybe we'll have a week of scathing posts? Only time will tell.

And this is what I wore to the airport! Lost in Drawers has the most comfy vintage day-dresses. Earlier last month I snapped up a white, floral dress number that's quickly becoming my August uniform. If you want to see more of their selection, check out their Etsy store!

  7. When I went to visit my family back in February, I had to make my own food :( :( :( But over the weekends, my mom made me the yummiest food ever, so it was ok ;)

LOVE that dress, Marlen. Happy weekend!

  8. I love you in hats, as always! But this one just seems to suggest adventure, so it is extra appropriate that you wore it on a plane. Have fun at home.

  9. Aww, sorry the welcome home wasn't what you thought it would be, but I'm sure you'll have a fun time overall! And I'm sure that smoothie was delicious ;)

Loving the outfit here- can't go wrong with a denim jacket over a printed dress. Right up my alley! xo

  10. Haha I'm the same way when I go home, which is hardly ever. What I really expect is for my bed to be cleared of stuff. My parents have turned my room into their junk room, and rightfully so, but I still have to sleep on the bed! I don't want it to be covered in dad's phone books from the 1950s collection.

  11. I'm not your mom, but if I knew you of all people were coming to my place, I'd have a cake baked, floors shined, rad sparkly sign made (with macaroni, too, duh) and PLENTY of cookies in the cabinet. PLENTY, I SAYS.

I hope your week brightens up a tad. Maybe they didn't want to make things ~too intense~ bc you're a big grown up adult or osmething IDK IDK

Your hat is cute. You and Katie are both such cute hat ladies!

  12. I'm completely envious of your Chicago trip. It's one of my most favorite cities and I haven't been in forever. I hope it gets better, although I really do love chicken nuggets. Oh, and great airport outfit. This is something cute and comfy for the ride there, I would have done something very similar :)

  13. Cute outfit! I like the bit of fun flair that the necklace adds.(:
Haha, I know how you feel! I felt like that would be my welcoming home after I was gone for about a month on a cross-country trip with a friend...I got home and it was just like normal, and I was almost disappointed, haha! But I was just so happy to be back I didn't really care.

  14. This outfit is perfect. I wish I could wear the jean jacket I thrifted but it's just too hot! I want to wear it with a cute sun dress like yours. I'm loving the hat you paired with this too.

And I definitely understand coming home and being sad that there's no home made dinner! I expect deliciousness when I come home for the weekend! You came from far away too. It's just not fair.

  15. Ahh, they say you can never go home ;-) Bummer though, you were looking forward to the red carpet!
I love this dress, it's a little shorter than you normally choose.

I hope your week home gets better. I know the pain of having to nuke food when on one wants to make it for me. ;)

  20. I love that you dress up for the airport- I have so many friends who do the whole leggings and baggy t-shirt thing, but I really enjoy looking put-together even if I'm just sitting on a plane all day! I'm sorry that your trip is off to a bad start, but hopefully it will turn around! :)
