So I've been getting quite a few comments on how I'd actually fare layering once it gets hotter. Correction, I've been getting quite a few challenging comments. Haha oh you want me to bring it?

Consider it brung.

Layering during the summer doesn't have to be a hot mess- there's a simple way to do it. Just snip off some sleeves. Here I bought a chambray shirt from the thrift store and hacked off its sleeves and layered it underneath my polka dot crop top since I always love a collar in anything I'm wearing.

I know chambray is still too hot to wear for all my people living out in the deserts (and on those uber humid summer days in Chicago), so I always had a reserve of thin or silk collared tops that I'd scout out from the thrift store. As the days keep getting warmer, you'll see first-hand what I'm talking about right here on the blog ;)

PS- I'm going to be MIA these next two days seeing how I'm going to be driving cross country to my new home, Seattle! Talk to you then!

Also, hop on over to Jessi's blog, Haircut and General Attitude, where I'll be guest posting about my vintage shop, Bear and Twine. I talk about that moment when I was younger when I first got into fashion, so I'd love it if you'd pop on over and told me yours!

  6. I almost wore a bunch of polka dots today! It's my favorite trend now and I hope it never leaves.

    I love those earrings.

Also, layer away. The one thing I hate about warm weather is that I have to layer less. Layering is my favorite part of fashion. You are a layering inspiration.

  7. Oh wow, good luck with your move-that is so exciting!! I have an aunt and uncle who live out there and when I visited then last time I almost stayed because I loved it so much :)
I love this layered tank look- I don't like going sans collar either so this is a great summer tip. Plus, double polka dots? Genius! The bag just really took this to the next level, great colors.

  10. Loving how you layered denim under this top! I find it quite difficult to do layering while it's hot but you seem uber-cool on that!

    Hope you are well!

  23. OOOHO GURL you brung it. You brung it HARD. I appreciate how much you brung it. And that you used the word brung. You are clever and I like you.

Spots on spots looks amazing. And your neon belt just ties it all together in a way I would have never expected. How dooo you do it?

  24. I love your skirt and boots! I'm also impressed by your commitment to layering - these days, once it hits about 70°F, I go to wearing as little as I can while still looking okay and not being exposed. Not that Cleveland's really letting me do that right now, but that seems to be my habit.

  29. I think that blouses can actually be quite cool in the summer! A nice flowy and lose-fitting collared top under a skirt is a perfect summer outfit. :)

  30. Hahaha, challenge accepted, huh? ;)
You are passing with flying colors too! Hacking off sleeves = genius. Yup, lesson learned. Never challenge Marlen to layering. She will school you!
I seriously love the two polka dot prints together. One smaller than the other definitely makes it work

  31. Aaaaah I adore that wild combination of different prints! And couple of weeks ago, when it was first time warm enough to go out in a top, I also cut sleeves off from two (or was it three)of my blouses. I wonder what I´m going to wear when the temperature will decrease and it won´t be that warm anymore... :D

  34. I so wish this skirt was a small and too tiny for my hips, because every time I see it on one of you, I just love it even more. This is definitely a new favorite of mine from you! You know my polka dot weakness, so this just has me drooling.

Hope the drive is going well, good luck with the move!

  41. haha i probably was one of those tough comments being a desert-dweller : ) it's just too hot for bras over here even. Or I should correct myself, normal bras even are killing my but sports bras are more bearable. I'm still decent, usually. anyway, sounds like you made it safe & sound. glad to hear & that you're furnishing things up via Goodwill already, that's what our whole place is made up of too. Love your remix of Ashley's skirt & of Rachel's as well- both are adorable and I love your layers w/ the fun prints on top!

  42. So many dots! I love it! I always enjoy how you layer in your outfits. I miss layering so much during Georgia summers. It's way too humid here most of the time, but I suck it up once in a while and just layer anyway! I love your idea of chopping the sleeves off some tops.
